M – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder
M – A city hunts a murderer
„The contemporary remake of one the all-time classics of film history: Fritz Lang’s thriller “M” from 1931.
Vienna in the dead of winter. An annoyed mother sends her little daughter back to the playground to retrieve a forgotten jacket. A whistling behind the curtain of snow. The little girl follows the lure and vanishes without a trace. A child murderer is afoot.
And the city seems filled with suspects: criminals, foreigners, the socially disadvantaged, the teacher, who acts suspiciously. More and more children disappear and after a while, their bodies start turning up. The police struggle with a series of defeats, whereas
the yellow press dash at the story like vultures. It is, first and foremost, a political problem. And, at the same time, a long-awaited opportunity for the ambitious and populist Minister of the Interior. Surveillance cameras installed at every corner, demands for the death penalty for the perpetrator. The criminal underworld interfere – the child murderer has to be found so they can continue with their usual dirty business, unhindered.
A witch hunt begins. A city hunts a murderer.
